We are in the middle of an unprecedented digital experiment on our public discourse. Across the globe billions of people are using social media and other communucation technologies to participate in our digital democratic conversation on a daily basis. However, the digitalization of the democratic debate has not only led to a tremendous increase in the number of participants in the digital democratic conversation. In parallel, we are also witnessing the dark side of this democractic experiment with growing problems of hate speech, polarization and foreign interference in the shape of disinformation. In this talk, Tobias Bornakke, will dicsuss the growing problems of our digital democracy along with recommendations on how to work with these problems, both in our daily work as designers with a responsibility for what we create and as members of our soceity. Tobias Bornakke is chair of the Nordic Think Tank for Tech and Democracy, an expertpanel underneath the Nordic Council of ministers tasked to protect our digital conversation.
Tobias Bornakke is a researcher and co-founder of Analyse & Tal. Tobias holds a Ph.D. in digital methods and has led several studies on the democratic debate on social media across the Nordic countries. Currently Tobias is the chair of the Nordic Think tank for Tech and Democracy, an expert panel underneath the Nordic Council of ministers tasked to protect our digital conversation.
